Western Mixers has long been associated and instrumental in the growth and development of the produce industry in Southern California. Back in 1965, a 15-person committee was formed to make up the Fresh Produce Council.
Norman H. "Buz" Bolstad was appointed its first president. Under Bolstad's leadership, the Fresh Produce Council saw the need for retailers, growers, sellers and promotional managers to provide better communication and education on behalf of the industry.
Today, the Souther California Produce Achievement Award is now renamed as the Norman H. "Buz" Bolstad Produce Award.
