Western Mixers has long been associated and instrumental in the growth and development of the produce industry in Southern California.  Back in 1965, a 15-person committee was formed to make up the Fresh Produce Council.

Norman H. "Buz" Bolstad was appointed its first president.  Under Bolstad's leadership, the Fresh Produce Council saw the need for retailers, growers, sellers and promotional managers to provide better communication and education on behalf of the industry.

Today, the Souther California Produce Achievement Award is now renamed as the Norman H. "Buz" Bolstad Produce Award.

USDA - Community Partner

In 2011, Western Mixers became a Community Partner with the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and the Promotion Nutrition Communicators Network.  Along with the USDA, we are working to reach consumers and help them make meaningful, sustainable, healthy dietary changes, based on the new USDA Dietary Guidelines. provides consumers with the necessary tools, tips and information to make healthy choices for themselves and their families.

Since 1987 Western Mixers has provided the Skidettes with fresh fruit each month for their outreach program.  The program assembles lunches which are then taken to the downtown missions to feed the needy.  2012 marked the 25th year of participating in this program.  To date, Western Mixers has donated over a million and a half, pieces of fresh fruit!
